September 30th!

Well here it is the end of September and I am very happy with what I accomplished this month- mainly due to the fact I have not been working since September 18th...I completed Louisa as I showed in a previous post and also cut out Sassafras. The first picture shows yesterday afternoon about 5pm as I was finishing putting the Sassafras blocks together and the second picture shows this morning- all the blocks are together, and ready to be squared up, or in this case, rectangled up. I will not get the quilt top put together or the appliqué done before tonight, so that goes on my October list to finish.

I leave fabric on the floor for Chloe as she just loves to lay on it. Whenever I am laying out a quilt top she is in her glory as she just plops herself on top of it.

Tomorrow is a volunteer day for me. This Sunday is the CIBC Run for the Cure, and tomorrow I am helping sort the team T shirts and packages to get them ready for the teams to pick up. So, I will likely not get any sewing time in tomorrow. Sunday is the Run for the Cure, and I am also volunteering at one of the water stations. The weather forecast is not great- cold and possible rain or even snow flurries- Yay! So, on Friday I intend to organize my projects to be completed for the October CGQC, and will post my plans then. I look forward to seeing everyone's completed projects, and the plans for the upcoming month!

Second CGQC Project Done for September

I finished the quilt top from the Louisa pattern. It did call for some leaves to be appliquéd in each block, but I think it is busy enough without the leaves adorning every block. My professional quilt holder dangled it from the deck for me to take a picture on this beautiful sunny day. I am pleased with the look and colours, but am not sure where it will end up once the top is quilted...

Today will likely be a non sewing day as we are heading into Calgary to visit with Tony's Mom, and then my son is coming for dinner. I am just making hamburgers and potato salad and grilled veggies- a salute to the end of summer that seems to be inevitable. Colder weather is on the way, and days to BBQ will be fewer.

Tomorrow I am going to continue to sew the blocks together for Sassafras, and see how far I get with that before the end of September. I may get the blocks done, but doubt I will get the appliqué done as well, but I will try!

Progress

Another beautiful sunny day, and I can't resist sitting on the deck and finishing my book. I think we are so lucky to have had this wonderful weather past the middle of September, and we have to enjoy every minute. I have been busy finishing the blocks for Louisa and got them all done yesterday. Then by about 4pm I had half the blocks put together with the help of my buddy Chloe. I was eating licorice, and so she has to supervise anything involving food. I plan to finish the quilt top this week. For my other September project I was to cut out Sassafras, and got that done early in the month. So, now I plan to sew the quilt top and complete it before the end of September. Over and above my goals, so that makes me happy. Goal oriented is very good!

We have another date night tonight! Wow- two in one week...We have been invited to dinner by one of the restaurants that Tony frequents with clients as kind of a thank you for the business- sort of frequent "eater" miles! So I will get dressed up and drive into Calgary to take the train downtown to meet him. I look forward to a lovely meal, and the company.

Date Night

This will be a blog with no pictures! Oh the shame! This past weekend was very busy and I have not even walked through the door of my sewing room. Saturday night we went out for a pub dinner and then went to see Keith Urban! Wow- what a concert! Lady Antebellum opened for him and it was just a terrific concert and lovely evening. Keith Urban is a great entertainer and very gracious to all the fans. He came right into the crowd many times, giving his security a heart attack I'm sure. It was a stand up concert for the most part as he got everybody up and clapping and dancing. And he took the time at the end to shake the hands of many of the fans who were close enough and seemed to really appreciate everyone coming. The band was very good and they really seem to be there for the love of the music!

Now that I am a lady of leisure (for awhile!) I am going to spend most of the day today in my sewing room. So, the next blog should have some pictures of my progress on finishing my September projects for CGQC. This on line group has been great in motivating me into actually finishing projects, although I am always distracted by the thoughts of new projects!

Good luck to all you ladies in finishing your September projects- most much more ambitious than mine!

Tag, I'm it.

I had a lovely package waiting for me when I got home yesterday, along with the fabric postcard from my sister in law. These are from Seaside Quilting Supplies and they were packaged up so beautifully. Each of the three were wrapped in a ribbon with a seashell attached. Also in the package there was salt water taffy and a little kit to make a coaster for a glass/cup. I though I'd make it up and use it in my sewing room.
The first group is a Holiday 5 pack, the second is some of the Wild Bunch collection by RJR, and the third is Floragraphix by Jason Yetter. Now that I look at these pictures do you see a theme? Do you think I like red? and other primary colours?
Now to the tag from CGQC- I think the quilt should be called Tumbling Block as that is what it makes me think of- a baby quilt that could be made to suit boy or girl.
My name:
A-an inquiring mind
N- nutty about my family
N-nice as can be! (ha!)
E-ever the optimist/or is it pessimist?

Three More Days!

This is what arrived in the mail today from my sister in law in London, Ontario- I just love it and postcards are on my list of things to try...on that very long list! She is a very talented quilter who seems to need no patterns -just her imagination. Her blog is on my side list- the "quilt as desired" lady. Check her out.
Tony is away in Nisku learning about pump jacks (woohoo!!) and I was up early this morning after having slept 8 1/2 hours! The last time I did that was probably 6-8 months ago. Anyway Chloe and I went on our weekend walk this morning because I had the time. Here is a farmers field on the way back home- back into the suburbs...lovely sunny September morning- I was wishing I had my mitts, but now I have my shorts on!
My CGQC September projects are shaping up-one completed, so more on that this weekend.

Weekend Plans

I was up earlier than usual this morning as Tony was off to an early morning golf game. It has been frosty here, and he was hoping there wouldn't be a frost delay. The sun was just coming up and you can see my ponds with the town close behind them. Then I walk up the pathway for 3-4 minutes and I can see this field. I could still hear the coyotes howling this morning, so I guess they had a successful night of hunting.
I am diligently working on my projects to finish for the CGQC. Today is cleaning and some other chores, so maybe by mid afternoon I might have some quilting time.
I have decided to quit my job as it is just not working out. I have not been sleeping, and I mean...not sleeping- going to work sometimes after being awake since 1:30 in the morning. I had knots in my stomach all the time and decided that I don't want to do payroll. It is just not for me. I am more of an administrative/accounts payable gal, so that is what I will be looking for. I am lucky that I am able to do this, but I do have to work. I plan to take the first week and do nothing and try to regain my health. I will have a whole week to quilt! Unheard of!!! Since I made this decision and gave my notice I have been sleeping better and the knots are gone. One more week!!
Have a wonderful weekend!

Louisa

I am home sick today with the flu, and I can't sleep anymore. I came home yesterday about 2:30 and slept all evening and then all night. Today I am not feeling much better, but then again maybe I am as I feel I need to get up and move. I actually had a doctor's appointment today on another matter, and when I called to cancel, the doctor's nurse said that the flu has hit early and they are seeing a lot of it. So this afternoon, I am going to rest, but try not to sleep, or I know for sure I won't sleep tonight....
This is the first block in my Louisa quilt, and as luck would have it, I did not make a mistake in cutting! The blocks are fairly easy, but labor intensive. I love the colors, and think it will be great.
Tony has golf and hockey stuff this weekend, and both kids are back at school so I imagine I will get lots of quilting done.
I am starting to read Pat Conroy's new book called South of Broad, so will curl up on the couch with a quilt (of course!!!) and a cup of tea. I can't seem to get warm so may just put the fireplace on too. Hears to good health!!!

One Goal Met

We had a wonderful day put at Priddis yesterday watching the LPGA. I am not a golfer but really enjoy watching it, especially these talented women. We followed two groups through the course rather then sitting at one hole. It was a lovely day although it got windy in the afternoon.
I have managed to get Chloe off my Simple Abundance fabric and get it all cut out. I had to keep moving her over and pull the fabric out from underneath her. So that is cut out and ready to go. I imagine I will have time to sew it together as well. I am now working at finishing cutting out Louisa and then will start putting the blocks together. I have a sinking feeling I made a mistake cutting when I started many months ago...I needed to take a break and have lunch and I will go back to it in a few minutes. Wish me luck!!

My Silly Girl

Yup, it's a dog's life!!

Long Weekend!

As per the weekly tradition here is one of "my" ponds this morning! We have been having warm days and very cool nights and the ponds are beautiful early in the morning with the mist rising from them. Haven't seen many birds lately, but when the Canada geese start their migration some usually stop here.

I was asked on my last blog posting what fabric I had used to make the quilt I completed. I can't remember what is is, but in the past year or so have been more diligent about the name of the fabric, and recording more info about my quilts as I make and complete them.

Tony has gone off to the Priddis golf course to watch the LPGA championship that has been there all this week. I am going to start my chosen projects for the CGQC today, and then we are going together tomorrow to watch the ladies play for the final round. Tonight we are going to the Okotoks Pro Rodeo- an annual event here in town. Then I hope on Monday to spend the day in my room working on projects.

This is what I plan to do this month for CGQC. I am going to sew together the quilt top for a Moda kit I bought a year or so ago. It is the Louisa fabric by Terry Clothier and the pattern by the same name. It has been cut out for some time, and even a block or two started, so I want to complete that quilt top. I am also going to work on cutting out the Sassafras pattern by Thimbleblossoms in the Simple Abundance fabric line. My goals seem so simple compared to some of the beautiful finishes shown of the Charming Chatter blog. There are many, many talented ladies out there in quilt land! Cheers to you all!
