I can't believe it! Not that there is much happening, but I have missed blogging.<br />
<br />
Tony is off today (and all weekend) to watch the <a href="http://shawcharityclassic.com/">Shaw Charity Golf Classic</a> in Calgary. I bought him the tickets last January for his birthday so he can a few guests as well. Today he is taking our son in law, and some friends tomorrow. My daughter is coming to meet me today for a pedicure and lunch- a girly day.<br />
<br />
Tomorrow and Monday I plan to get some time in my sewing room. I have been working on so many things at once, I think I need to slow down and focus on just a couple of things. I need to clean the closet where I store my scraps as I've just been throwing things in there, and not being organized at all.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhweUxzi5602K9MQ_B93QntLdZDNJ7P8U6s5dpV4BqYrxr2xigGkpkUyRbcMokF23T5qoysoc4iYf2X7zbK7Q4SezbsTekkuVXIh3J4Jb36rQet_-XaX1kaNiJnXzMZeSdo_Ad91dPK1g/s1600/IMG_0633.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhweUxzi5602K9MQ_B93QntLdZDNJ7P8U6s5dpV4BqYrxr2xigGkpkUyRbcMokF23T5qoysoc4iYf2X7zbK7Q4SezbsTekkuVXIh3J4Jb36rQet_-XaX1kaNiJnXzMZeSdo_Ad91dPK1g/s1600/IMG_0633.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Usually I cut 5" squares or 2.5" strips from small scraps, and fold and store by colour the larger scraps. Not so much lately. That seems like a good job for a cold or rainy day, and we've had such a wonderful summer it is hard to feel like doing a chore like that in a room in the basement.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlnZ_c5-3eXEeJ7hXeDIIbfbySnHM1RioYP-PjS7OcO-9eO0kle9zsB13rJ7i8u7d4pqZ8yfN6CRiPoIUXcZLQvmy7-eFetrWmgqvbD2b81TnAvvu3CuANySu01Q5RxGzk9NmEFKvLuA/s1600/IMG_0630.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlnZ_c5-3eXEeJ7hXeDIIbfbySnHM1RioYP-PjS7OcO-9eO0kle9zsB13rJ7i8u7d4pqZ8yfN6CRiPoIUXcZLQvmy7-eFetrWmgqvbD2b81TnAvvu3CuANySu01Q5RxGzk9NmEFKvLuA/s1600/IMG_0630.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
I have been working on this trellis, or over/under pattern, but it is definitely not something I can do if I am tired. This is a "first thing on a Sunday morning" job. I find I really have to focus on this and probably only going to make a couple blocks at a time.<br />
<br />
<br />
Well, off to shower. My daughter will be here in a hour, and I want to read a bit before I have to leave to meet her. Have a great Labour Day weekend!anniebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06964650375035909932noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642496326734136626.post-61182023312260661532014-08-24T14:25:00.000-06:002014-08-24T14:25:19.594-06:00Quilting WeekI just had the past week off work and had a staycation in my sewing room. I really enjoyed the week, and got lots done, but now need to clean up this room, and the adjoining work out area. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I got a bunch of future projects cut out, labeled and ready to go for those evenings when I am too tired to cut. I make too many mistakes when I try to cut anything out when I am tired.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-F3RdMNnYILmKFavzId4WpyRKXwOtQLfbV3ZbnYCAngeOVEv8qCiEhvcooCnb1wkgFZ3j6GTHbY4oWLPwRF1NoAlswRvmpvfzFTgxRoDuvWI0daWQ6yyi0mD461TFY6yJMgCuXj_E0A/s1600/IMG_0627.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-F3RdMNnYILmKFavzId4WpyRKXwOtQLfbV3ZbnYCAngeOVEv8qCiEhvcooCnb1wkgFZ3j6GTHbY4oWLPwRF1NoAlswRvmpvfzFTgxRoDuvWI0daWQ6yyi0mD461TFY6yJMgCuXj_E0A/s1600/IMG_0627.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
These are piles of blocks done and ready to be laid out on my design floor. I think there are 5 projects here ready to go.<br />
<br />
I got the binding added to this quilt, so I think I will hang this somewhere.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd9WTwRbpHWrr7J27tH7eyceqAwkixdyZH5GS3xwYFpa76l-ApuFZTWQPz63g_MGUGo_o0vfJgoIUVzSPEkUS2hF_i70-_up6HfHKSMzGSdUHH0j3OeR_NG-NL1yYhZqErUdDsfxsWqg/s1600/IMG_0628.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgd9WTwRbpHWrr7J27tH7eyceqAwkixdyZH5GS3xwYFpa76l-ApuFZTWQPz63g_MGUGo_o0vfJgoIUVzSPEkUS2hF_i70-_up6HfHKSMzGSdUHH0j3OeR_NG-NL1yYhZqErUdDsfxsWqg/s1600/IMG_0628.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And not pictured, I got 2 quilt tops done for a quilting group I belong to that make quilts for cancer patients. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
All in all, a very productive week, but unfortunately, back to work tomorrow. </div>

I have, as always many things on the go, and many to prepare.<br />
<br />
I am finishing off Brocante- a Schnibbles by Miss Rosie. This is a scrap quilt and will be a table topper. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj01Jm2zxtydg5VIn-ulrwVOMH1Im8PlOD0IUuyKljzpRsxnw5gmIEmCVSWNO3GDh2IaaGBMpymPjNsPnN_59FpvvxJPmtNRJz6Q8qvsTo3rMB74G9muQvwZn-DgHGtLczeRHDLaHEVwA/s1600/IMG_0493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj01Jm2zxtydg5VIn-ulrwVOMH1Im8PlOD0IUuyKljzpRsxnw5gmIEmCVSWNO3GDh2IaaGBMpymPjNsPnN_59FpvvxJPmtNRJz6Q8qvsTo3rMB74G9muQvwZn-DgHGtLczeRHDLaHEVwA/s1600/IMG_0493.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Right now with Tony not working, I can't afford to get any of my completed quilt tops quilted so making Schnibbles allows me to do the quilting and have completed projects. My back just can't handle quilting anything much larger than a table topper size quilt. I am ready to lay this out on my design floor and get the top set out to my liking.<br />
<br />
Next up is Imagine, another Schnibbles. This is mostly cut out, so will come together quickly.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI8GCKSZRYcEVGTpFdbjfgB4KmEz2dG4MOM1IptDy2u0HBxripQqV_JInMy3AaBxPHytabsoIMY5YbTaG2EmFwYA8eS43AW6t7txUGtHyaEaadu6dQyOOe5D4589R60lk00F-QF6-2vQ/s1600/IMG_0495.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgI8GCKSZRYcEVGTpFdbjfgB4KmEz2dG4MOM1IptDy2u0HBxripQqV_JInMy3AaBxPHytabsoIMY5YbTaG2EmFwYA8eS43AW6t7txUGtHyaEaadu6dQyOOe5D4589R60lk00F-QF6-2vQ/s1600/IMG_0495.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
And this week I used some of my Christmas $$ and bought Sewing Box by Gina Martin:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMBKlx143Yr6GhfJQKHNuoQ9rHf7-_q38hMwnyj2iIvatOKGyTenKAdk492078RpJC2Puk3BbtTRq9w-mQu2EJn9ooI-NOH51ye5W0vnRijI1bFyZ0YAV_Py8yGje363hWdxkTL1oejg/s1600/IMG_0496.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMBKlx143Yr6GhfJQKHNuoQ9rHf7-_q38hMwnyj2iIvatOKGyTenKAdk492078RpJC2Puk3BbtTRq9w-mQu2EJn9ooI-NOH51ye5W0vnRijI1bFyZ0YAV_Py8yGje363hWdxkTL1oejg/s1600/IMG_0496.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Beautiful rich colours, and I plan to make a wall hanging for my quilting room. I am going to make <a href="http://thimbleblossoms.bigcartel.com/product/spools-pattern-154-paper-pattern">Spools by Camille Roskelley</a> I may start cutting out to day or tomorrow.<br />
<br />
Tonight we were invited by friends to go to Yuk Yuks, playing at our local town <a href="http://www.okotoks.ca/culture/default.aspx?cid=1892">Performing Arts Centre</a>, so are looking forward to that. It is in an old church, and quite small, but the seating/viewing is good- still the old pews.<br />
<br />
Keep warm, and have a great week!<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Ready for round five on this pile-only 179 blocks!<br />
<br />
We've had beautiful warm weather thanks to a chinook weather pattern. This was our sunset last night with the high chinook arch.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5UZEjK50S4wWJ1xn8yaGxejaHRclwzDZiYI-__BPNUlgYClMu3hAGjECE6iQvJRCw9CB6MEbU_CbhA_8b40k3-KiV9ojT45-zUzg1ceTHagWDDjNSuSoqSWr-_aYqiyqGf7Mv9gGiIw/s1600/IMG_0491.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh5UZEjK50S4wWJ1xn8yaGxejaHRclwzDZiYI-__BPNUlgYClMu3hAGjECE6iQvJRCw9CB6MEbU_CbhA_8b40k3-KiV9ojT45-zUzg1ceTHagWDDjNSuSoqSWr-_aYqiyqGf7Mv9gGiIw/s1600/IMG_0491.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
So, even thought there is snow on the ground, it was warm enough for this yesterday afternoon....<br />

Cheers! Have a great week.anniebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06964650375035909932noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642496326734136626.post-40288945647416182392014-01-12T13:30:00.000-07:002014-01-12T13:30:03.379-07:00Lazy SundayMost Sundays are the day I choose not to do much. After working full time all week it is nice to just chill, read, sew, go for a walk, nap...<br />
<br />
Today we have already gone for a walk, cleaned up after guests for dinner last night and now it is "my time".<br />
<br />
I am making a Quilt called Lazy Sunday Quilt, pattern by May Chappell, found on <a href="http://www.craftsy.com/patterns?patternSearchText=lazy%20sunday&sortBy=relevance">Craftsy. </a> I'm making a king size quilt for our master bedroom. I have always loved log cabing quilts and this is a take on that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmIM71LQUBwva6feenzYYNWq8znM1k3gZjZ99SH6hSVULodidvlxzG0LGzG7qV1ivl2QbnZYmxKhvW7iEiZnisCMO-42IxG0pED_fz4RrI6KNnaSiy7pDinFkuAJwMrL60G4Tfho46eg/s1600/IMG_0489.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmIM71LQUBwva6feenzYYNWq8znM1k3gZjZ99SH6hSVULodidvlxzG0LGzG7qV1ivl2QbnZYmxKhvW7iEiZnisCMO-42IxG0pED_fz4RrI6KNnaSiy7pDinFkuAJwMrL60G4Tfho46eg/s1600/IMG_0489.JPG" height="320" width="315" /></a></div>
<br />
The fabric colours are great, Crossroads by Jan Patek. And of course there is red, as there should be in every quilt!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhmz451F4PLSCOgcLPnni2FKqBmX4jKp9J7ASwrg2NhEJCzA85NjBnS34Pea5GGyoG7BXtxvH6UFtWb70iyidsUMnvXZ5kHC2HJNR74gJmwarcTuhhIq2VDMzjznAzXZjo4Pri5_YCcQ/s1600/IMG_0488.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhmz451F4PLSCOgcLPnni2FKqBmX4jKp9J7ASwrg2NhEJCzA85NjBnS34Pea5GGyoG7BXtxvH6UFtWb70iyidsUMnvXZ5kHC2HJNR74gJmwarcTuhhIq2VDMzjznAzXZjo4Pri5_YCcQ/s1600/IMG_0488.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
There are 179 blocks, so there is a lot of sewing, and strip piecing. I am on strip # 4 with a total of 6, so today I hope to get to the end of 4, and starting on 5.<br />
<br />
I will post my prgress next week. Have a wonderful week!anniebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06964650375035909932noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642496326734136626.post-68800731177902694392014-01-05T11:12:00.001-07:002014-01-05T11:12:33.799-07:00Cold and WintryWe are having an extremely cold day, so a good one to hibernate. Tony's birthday is tomorrow so we are having his brothers and sisters and assorted spouses over for lasagna tonight. The lasagna is made and since we also had guests for dinner last night, the house is clean, and I really just need to give the floors a quick sweep and make sure the guest bathroom is still clean.<br />
<br />
So most of the day is mine...and judging by the state of my sewing room, I need to take some time to tidy up a bit.<br />
<br />

What is the expression about messiness and a creative mind? Can't think of it, but I like to think this applies here...For me it is like a messy desk- I know where everything is, and what the plans are for the assorted piles, but it can feel a little crowded at times.<br />
<br />
I had one vacation day left from 2013 so I took the day off work tomorrow, so the plan would be to (re)organize my sewing room today and spend the day sewing tomorrow.<br />

I should also start putting the Christmas decorations away too, but I love the way the house looks at Christmas.<br />
<br />
Have a wonderdful week, and I hope to have a few projects to share next time.<br />

<br />
Starting early in 2013 Tony was hospitalized and had surgery to remove a kidney stone, and from there our year has a "few" issues. We lost a few friends to cancer, Tony's Mom Perry passed away in May, and we had to put our beloved Chloe down on October 8. We miss our beautiful girl every day.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQS8DHv6qolYchIXoD803ibY3AnD8DQ7aDgqHkKxk0JG_ZIOQUGeBIerg7MbxwUDNlBK_xOR8Xox2FVmu6c9pOZx9_Z6K-zb62f6FaWaglhuXO-M9FKB1_hWoV8Z3GSNqkczQyVkSDhg/s1600/IMG_0339.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQS8DHv6qolYchIXoD803ibY3AnD8DQ7aDgqHkKxk0JG_ZIOQUGeBIerg7MbxwUDNlBK_xOR8Xox2FVmu6c9pOZx9_Z6K-zb62f6FaWaglhuXO-M9FKB1_hWoV8Z3GSNqkczQyVkSDhg/s1600/IMG_0339.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
In between, Tony was very ill again with another issue, and then was laid off in October. He is still looking for work. Also our son Neil decided to take a 2 year contract in New Zealand, and left in July.<br />
<br />
We've had a lot to deal with, but there is always happiness and joy to be found. One thing giving us joy right now is our daughters upcoming wedding in May 2014. There is not a lot I have to do in the planning aspect as they have hired wedding planners for that, but it is exciting to realize that in 5 short months we will be attending her wedding and welcoming a terrific young man into our family. It also means Neil will be home for the wedding.<br />
<br />
Quilting still gives me much joy, although I have fallen behind this year on projects, and only in the last couple of weeks have I felt up to carrying on. I have a pile of quilts waiting to be bound, and have started a new project.<br />
<br />

I realize that quilting helps me relax and deal with any anxiety that I may have. So, it is important for me to continue on. I have a beautiful relaxing room, don't I?<br />
<br />
So, bring on 2014!anniebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06964650375035909932noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642496326734136626.post-16797855414749414172012-12-09T10:34:00.003-07:002012-12-09T10:34:52.103-07:00Cold and Wintery SundayI've been absent for awhile. I've had no mojo for quilting but it is coming back. I've joined a volunteer group that makes quilts for cancer patients and have one quilt top almost done. The name of the group is Victoria's Quilt's Canada <a href="http://www.victoriasquiltscanada.com/">http://www.victoriasquiltscanada.com/</a> and we have a local group here in Okotoks. The lady who owns the local quilt shop lets us use her class room every second Tuesday for cutting, sewing, talking, laughing and meeting.<br />
<br />
We are in need of men's quilts so that is what I have started. The fabric is mostly donated so most quilts are scrap quilts. I think I have enough of the dark brown to do a 2" border. The quilts are made to about 52"X72" - a good size to let patients cuddle and keep warm.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTug0bc5MOsEHBqI807JfWmZxoHpnGbdoioPz3WVrxnTE9_htHhEYb7IzaMq8yc0AYSiv0L4LWjRudNh8MEACZ-KwdJeAeKMZu8w6t-2eKiF8NwJhwINBe-b-1dD0gUmqYsh-AvqMDwQ/s1600/DSC01605.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTug0bc5MOsEHBqI807JfWmZxoHpnGbdoioPz3WVrxnTE9_htHhEYb7IzaMq8yc0AYSiv0L4LWjRudNh8MEACZ-KwdJeAeKMZu8w6t-2eKiF8NwJhwINBe-b-1dD0gUmqYsh-AvqMDwQ/s320/DSC01605.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I have 4 quilts back from the long arm quilter so lots of hand sewing over the winter months. I left her with 2 more and will have more for her after Christmas.<br />
<br />
Probably part of the lack of mojo is that I have not started any new projects as I had decided to dedicate 2012 to finishing up UFO's. A good idea in many ways but it severly cramped my creative juices...so last week I allowed myself to start a new project and feel much better. I am making a quilt for one of the walls in Tony's office. More on that another day.<br />
<br />
We had new hardwood floors installed on the main floor last month and I just love them. With a Golden Retreiver there will always be hair so we just decided to go for it. I love the gradients of colour and the grain of the wood. Now that we have new floors, everything looks different though, so now the process of painting and re-decorating has started. That will be a gradual process over the winter as I am going to paint a few pieces, and re-cover some stools etc.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Tony is making lasagna, so Chloe is supervising and waiting for any little crumb to drop. Dana and her boyfriend Drew are coming for dinner tonight, so along with lasagna we are having the traditional garlic bread and caesar salad. And hopefully leftovers for Tony and I tomorrow night!<br />
<br />
Have a wonderful Sunday and a great week!<br />

The weather is still fairly nice for us here, sunny and high teen temperatures (about 68-70 degrees), but the plants were getting leggy and just looking old. So now I am pulling out my fall wreaths and quilts and decorating for fall.<br />
<br />

<br />
I have Neil's quilt labeled and have started putting the rows together. hopefully more progress this week on that.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji1R34W196-znYTe-QJScRvxBCJvVQAWELQiR12oF2v742Qim2dPcxHhYKX5-_cw0ByCb45I3rIKdjkDx6qBoUDoP1fghHMSilO0D0y4nrL9tfjDrzpd82sEoFOaJux2whoIm6KAVHaA/s1600/DSC01588.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEji1R34W196-znYTe-QJScRvxBCJvVQAWELQiR12oF2v742Qim2dPcxHhYKX5-_cw0ByCb45I3rIKdjkDx6qBoUDoP1fghHMSilO0D0y4nrL9tfjDrzpd82sEoFOaJux2whoIm6KAVHaA/s320/DSC01588.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This is what I am using as leaders for the above project. I started a winter quilt for the master bedroom months ago and grew bored with it. Not sure why that is but thought I could get a kick (re)start on it by sewing in between putting the above rows together...<br />
<br />
I said 2012 would be the year of finishing projects and have done well with that. I have 3 quilts waiting for binding, I have 3 quilts at the longarm quilters and two ready to go when I pick the others up. More on those another time.<br />
<br />
Have a wonderful week!anniebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06964650375035909932noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642496326734136626.post-70052758828997837132012-09-08T11:49:00.000-06:002012-09-08T11:49:17.721-06:00Neil's QuiltI have finally made some progress on this quilt. This is for my son's queen size bed.The blocks have been sewn together for months and left languishing under my cutting table since. So one night this week I laid them out and have left it there so every time I walk by I move a block to a better place. Today I plan to number the rows and get started putting it together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv6bOtIQ0Urvq3v0YauXBRF6rPKPTvs-jteTGFvQGykbU87sYPoZ-qwAWpYsLuRXDI790efx6Z9njSVL99eTN0Q97KN_aJtpvrdEseVVhoTZqcJO8Y1acMpkwVXxUKHW9t6uN-XiSOgw/s1600/DSC01585.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv6bOtIQ0Urvq3v0YauXBRF6rPKPTvs-jteTGFvQGykbU87sYPoZ-qwAWpYsLuRXDI790efx6Z9njSVL99eTN0Q97KN_aJtpvrdEseVVhoTZqcJO8Y1acMpkwVXxUKHW9t6uN-XiSOgw/s320/DSC01585.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Then I have the borders planned:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge3Usy0iFK7h4CNTN7JJgwLOA6lUZXRrDCGIiFaXbj_P5SGEzTyA-YlZVaJXxdMbQgQJtpQKlybMCeTGXBHQRv9vo0ibob0vXTi8MGxEVbopLX8w-Ycw6oP_Ra3fm7kHTMdQBcsWuo6A/s1600/DSC01586.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEge3Usy0iFK7h4CNTN7JJgwLOA6lUZXRrDCGIiFaXbj_P5SGEzTyA-YlZVaJXxdMbQgQJtpQKlybMCeTGXBHQRv9vo0ibob0vXTi8MGxEVbopLX8w-Ycw6oP_Ra3fm7kHTMdQBcsWuo6A/s320/DSC01586.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
It is quite hard to find a masculine fabric that is tasteful and even though there are some almost flowery pieces in the quilt, I think that a 26 year old man will be happy with this. His room is painted dark brown, so the green, white and turquoise will add some lovely colour.<br />
<br />
Have a wonderful week!<br />

We've had a lovely summer weather wise and now we are definitely feeling the cooler mornings and evenings. We've had time away, and now we will be "back on schedule"...<br />
<br />
We went to Golden B.C. for the wedding of our daughter's best friend. It was so beautiful and our daughter did such a great job with her speech.<br />
<br />
<br />

Words cannot describe the beauty fo the 360 degree view of the mountains.<br />
<br />
I am trying to finish off a king size quilt I have been making for the master bedroom. These are the last 4 rows and all I have to do is attach them to the rest of the quilt. As soon as my quilter Deb calls to say the quilt she is doing for me now is done, I want this one to be next.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I used "Martinique" by 3 Sisters for this and love the soft colours with the more masculine lines of the quilt. Our wall colour is the same as the taupe colour in the quilt, so can't wait to see it done. This was supposed to be our summer quilt for the bed...did I say next summer quilt?<br />

My friend Rhonda makes brautiful cards, and I wanted to frame them and hang them. So off we went to Ikea on a weekend. What were we thinking ?? I have a real love/hate relationship with Ikea and part of that is due to the great things they have but you pretty much have to walk through all the displays to get to what you want. I do not shop as a hobby nor is it a leisurely activity for me. I want to get what I want, and leave. Anyway after all that I bought the wrong size of frames, and had to go back today to get the right size. I got the cards hung today, and am so glad I can look at them all the time.<br />

Wall two. See the sewing machine? And of course a sunflower!<br />
<br />
It is really fun to decorate this room with pieces of me with mementos and treasured items. Next up will be some quilts for the big walls.<br />
<br />
Have a great week!<br />

Well hello! I am at light at then end of a very long tunnel, and and happy to be there. Since last October I was president of our condo association, and it was a volunteer position that took over my life, and at times was bigger than life. We were due to go on holidays in mid July and both Tony and I knew that I couldn't enjoy my holidays as I was "on call" and also not sleeping. I resigned before we left and it is only just now that I am feeling "better". No sense of dread when my phone buzzes with an email or text. Now it is family and friends and that is the way is should be.<br />
<br />
Dana moved out on Mother's Day and I really miss her even though we didn't see each other a lot when she lived here...but I now have a new sewing room. Tony works from home and needs a nice room for an office, so he got my lovely sunny sewing room. I moved downstairs to Dana's old bedroom. Tony painted it a lovely green and it is warm and cozy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It looks like a dull dreary day but is actually a beautiful sunny day, and I had to shut the shades to get a picture.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkEVk1vHc6eyLbnqG050tGUF3Hhk0I-ZcEOYGZIxh-dyMIVJovH4J3n4X0qHNFH5AyxP9mRvP7cWgKt3IiPvC0cV80ILjQESIVTxEYh7uo_zWyG7ELkzFUzb_umIZ7eY3vCcQW_bXruA/s1600/DSC01576.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgkEVk1vHc6eyLbnqG050tGUF3Hhk0I-ZcEOYGZIxh-dyMIVJovH4J3n4X0qHNFH5AyxP9mRvP7cWgKt3IiPvC0cV80ILjQESIVTxEYh7uo_zWyG7ELkzFUzb_umIZ7eY3vCcQW_bXruA/s320/DSC01576.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
On the floor are three quilts awaiting binding completion. On TV is the Olympics, of course!<br />
<br />

I have a little abutment on the wall for decorative "stuff". My angels, photos, keepsakes, etc. I have a quilt or two to put up yet, and also a plan for another wall. My friend Rhonda makes beautiful folded paper cards and I have some framed already. I will go to Ikea to get some more frames and do a display of her beautiful cards.<br />
<br />
My plan is to get re-organized in my room as I kinda forget what I was up to!<br />
<br />
Have a wonderful week!anniebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06964650375035909932noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642496326734136626.post-8145529272649032752012-04-22T09:29:00.003-06:002012-04-22T09:34:32.848-06:00Another FinishWell I had decided that 2012 would be the year to finish all those quilt tops I have in my closet, and so I have another one done. This was long arm quilted by my new best friend Deb, and I am again very pleased with her work. She has 4 more to work on, and I hope to have more tops for her when those 4 are done. I will run out of money before I run out of tops to be quilted!<br />

This is another baby quilt for another little girl born in March. I am using the green as the binding and will get that on today so I can start the hand sewing tonight in front of the TV. I would like to have it done in a few days so I can give it to them this week. </div>

This is the pile of 5" squares I cut from the left over backing of last weeks finish. </div>

I love the chocolate brown colour and think I will use them as alternate blocks in something...don't know what yet, maybe pinwheel bocks with some red and blue. </div>

Later today we are going to a little "meet and greet" for the family with the baby I finished the quilt for last week. Blogger isn't let me download the picture of it for some reason...</div>

<br />
It is a dull rainy day here. This is what Chloe chose to do today:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNvZ8PIL1UO-TtlVdsySaFK3GDX3mW6WCu9YJnTKZXct6ODctbJTdQWAuAbZeTrz9sFE4BqM3rmOW2EmgQniKhYUHP7eBWKwf-hfct27PhQ_-9gxEl75LxXbKhIOy2bMAlkMcd4MLFrA/s1600/DSC01448.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNvZ8PIL1UO-TtlVdsySaFK3GDX3mW6WCu9YJnTKZXct6ODctbJTdQWAuAbZeTrz9sFE4BqM3rmOW2EmgQniKhYUHP7eBWKwf-hfct27PhQ_-9gxEl75LxXbKhIOy2bMAlkMcd4MLFrA/s320/DSC01448.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
I live in a town with a population of about 25,000 people so have been thrilled to have recently find a long arm quilter that I can trust with my quilts. She was referred to me by my hair stylist, so she had to be good right? Hair and quilts are about even when it comes to trusting people to do a good job...so this is what I chose to do today:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJJThPjzpOioZDdf3wq7ZhXuafzpfKCBcnUJs8vN7OiTh68NZM4ajDkxZzYBVKDDlymHG-uJOFSdIjGxbVcNIN58gamCv_aYwKKlKrx4nIz6kvI2GMdwxBUQVR0yc2SXsVjhRJSPmwGw/s1600/DSC01497.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJJThPjzpOioZDdf3wq7ZhXuafzpfKCBcnUJs8vN7OiTh68NZM4ajDkxZzYBVKDDlymHG-uJOFSdIjGxbVcNIN58gamCv_aYwKKlKrx4nIz6kvI2GMdwxBUQVR0yc2SXsVjhRJSPmwGw/s320/DSC01497.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
She did a beautiful job of quilting. We chose a variegated thread with a circle pattern that softens the look of this rectangular quilt. I have put the binding on this baby and will do the hand sewing over the next evening or so.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

This is actually a baby quilt for a friend of the family. It is for a little girl and I like the fact it will be more a childhood quilt than a baby quilt.<br />
<br />

I have some episodes of the Good Wife to watch, so TV room here we come.<br />
<br />
Have a wonderful weekend!anniebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06964650375035909932noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642496326734136626.post-83180756301399134252012-02-23T19:45:00.002-07:002012-02-23T19:45:59.808-07:00What's New?I can't believe that it has been so long since I posted. I have taken on the responsibility of serving as president of our Condo Board. We live in a villa style condo, and there are 126 units. We are rewriting the bylaws as well as dealing with the day to day issues of a complex such as ours. I figure I spend 10 hours a week on the volunteer position, and that time used to be sewing time...So now working full time, along with this other commitment has severely cut into any time I had to myself. It has been a really interesting experience and has made me tougher, but I miss my "time".<br />
<br />
Not that I haven't done anything in the sewing room.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOVF7qwJA0RpJeS1-IIVne5Y9kjU-xDskTdC83jaMC18TutIv0JVsZenlFisD9mUDOPZ65FsqzNJl86v8MdEwYBSrQX-NQshKjZJGp4sXSmDZTjoBs_92a5G9FxvMyiDSFJ47_uRK7Fw/s1600/DSC01479.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOVF7qwJA0RpJeS1-IIVne5Y9kjU-xDskTdC83jaMC18TutIv0JVsZenlFisD9mUDOPZ65FsqzNJl86v8MdEwYBSrQX-NQshKjZJGp4sXSmDZTjoBs_92a5G9FxvMyiDSFJ47_uRK7Fw/s320/DSC01479.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
This has now been quilted, the binding added, and is just waiting for the binding to be tacked on the back of the table runner.<br />
<br />

I have always been pretty good with time management and now I have to be even better. I take time to myself when I can even if it is only 15 minutes in the morning before I go to work. Going into my sewing room- that is one of the things that makes me happy.anniebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06964650375035909932noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642496326734136626.post-10474694781994383782012-01-22T13:16:00.000-07:002012-01-22T13:16:13.276-07:00Now I'm Happy!I couldn't stand it anymore. I've moved my sewing room back upstairs into a beautiful sunny room, and I couldn't be happier! I am very lucky to have this room, and don't know why I had the need to move downstairs a few months ago. I was worried that this is the first room you see when you enter our home and come down the hallway, but now I think, whatever!! I can shut the door when we have guests.<br />

This extra desk is for cutting or for my card making/scrapbooking. In the box underneath is fabric I have listed in Kijiji. I decided after moving some things over the years from 3 homes, that if I haven't used it by now, I never will. Time to <strike>get rid of it </strike>find it a new home.<br />
<br />

I've even got a few treasures up on the wall, and some of my angel collection set up, so it is looking like 'home". <br />
<br />
I feel my creativity coming back, and can't wait to get back at it.<br />
<br />
Have a great week!anniebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06964650375035909932noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642496326734136626.post-73048259156819974252012-01-15T11:32:00.002-07:002012-01-15T11:32:43.906-07:00Snow DayI think if this were a school day, the kids might be off today. This is what we woke up to this morning:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-vwQ77LjF1T0V9qkK2s8UQkwynU1Q-_6GjozQPqkxgedMA_f-k234DZMa-ullSp7zzSvO42WwrOIPo__FP3sKprEeKdd_V3UGmEI82SXlgr-4saTAPM2mIxoH6mBzT50IrFx5AoaxjA/s1600/DSC01450.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-vwQ77LjF1T0V9qkK2s8UQkwynU1Q-_6GjozQPqkxgedMA_f-k234DZMa-ullSp7zzSvO42WwrOIPo__FP3sKprEeKdd_V3UGmEI82SXlgr-4saTAPM2mIxoH6mBzT50IrFx5AoaxjA/s320/DSC01450.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
It was very windy and so it doesn't look deep in some areas, but when I walked Chloe it was halfway to my knees. It is also cold as our frozen storm door attests.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgca4dHx53rk53Tj_Q7SjcQQLXVdSh_4D9JNzVcLNaI8SSYdbL4I7oitx1Fz0-2m_XTqtx_dsNUdbzQXcDJutW_YHI5RA82ZA6Isa7T2uJIDM9fiydzFBCKf3KukhlIyUowyrDJLJGm2Q/s1600/DSC01451.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgca4dHx53rk53Tj_Q7SjcQQLXVdSh_4D9JNzVcLNaI8SSYdbL4I7oitx1Fz0-2m_XTqtx_dsNUdbzQXcDJutW_YHI5RA82ZA6Isa7T2uJIDM9fiydzFBCKf3KukhlIyUowyrDJLJGm2Q/s320/DSC01451.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So what is a girl to do on a day like this???</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Maybe some of this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTv4I3crkCN5Kj0Fwlve9DT8DRV0jYzS6Tx_8vAuqgBcniTkO00ULU-RnLyM_H_CtiE5JeTeIl_3IpDQV_xtp-zaHUp6nP7tHo1Xpu-pOB_x60LIUlZAB8as7cH3mK5fCxAqG82YFanA/s1600/DSC01452.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTv4I3crkCN5Kj0Fwlve9DT8DRV0jYzS6Tx_8vAuqgBcniTkO00ULU-RnLyM_H_CtiE5JeTeIl_3IpDQV_xtp-zaHUp6nP7tHo1Xpu-pOB_x60LIUlZAB8as7cH3mK5fCxAqG82YFanA/s320/DSC01452.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Or some of this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiN-M2bpk9mVFmUIv86iCzy9za6sF0fTwmx90VdmkA_joEb4NHbmwi7CON6I4mGBaynptOD7LcLvdZ8lHI3Im9K4QkXz5aY6VHlSYMTh1AyfeSv6ONLsQWtTAfgwYuwjlsOiBAUEPyOYw/s1600/DSC01453.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiN-M2bpk9mVFmUIv86iCzy9za6sF0fTwmx90VdmkA_joEb4NHbmwi7CON6I4mGBaynptOD7LcLvdZ8lHI3Im9K4QkXz5aY6VHlSYMTh1AyfeSv6ONLsQWtTAfgwYuwjlsOiBAUEPyOYw/s320/DSC01453.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I also plan or doing some reading as I've got Stephen King's newest downloaded in my Kindle app on my iPad, and a "real" book by Michael Connelly (one of my favorite authors) sitting waiting for me to pick up. And best of all, leftovers for dinner, so no cooking.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My dream day! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Messy yet organized sewing spaces....<br />
<br />
2011 was not a great year for me. I have battled some depression and work related issues, and am hoping some things DO change....and that 2012 will be a year of change and good things. The optimist in me says "things can only get better" and the pessimist says "yah, but when?" I don't make resolutions, but I believe in goals, and one goal I set for myself is to be up for the challenge of a brand new year. So here we go!<br />
<br />
We brought in the New Year together at home catching up on Boardwalk Empire episodes, but we had dinner with 6 friends and ended up with these leftovers. Yum! Guess we are having Chinese again tonight!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That is it for the musings, and here is my random thought...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Why, you say, would she show a picture of dog poop on a paper napkin? Well actually it is a peaunut butter macaroon, and it is frozen. My favorite! And did you know frozen Christmas baking has no calories? A well known fact...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Happy New Year to you and yours!</div>

This is Maggie. She seems to have taken over Chloe's job- begging for food, and cuddling with Tony.<br />

This is Chloe being needy and jealous. She has been on top of me since Maggie came over this morning. They really don't pay attention to each other, and neither has had a nap all morning, so they'll be tired tonight. Maggie will be with us for the day, so maybe they'll socialize some as the day progresses...<br />
<br />
Have a wonderful weekend!<br />

Right now until the New Year I am off every Wednesday, and this is pretty much how I try to spend my day. Catching up on my reading...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
Look at those sandles and socks...no wonder Tony calls me his sexy quilter!!! Of course I also had on my black fleece jacket that is covered in threads...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Thinking about making another wreath. Thinking was the operative word with this today.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Started cutting out a new project.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1QZUwJF4cQUtVj4ZQU3qzV-rklgr8ZxSEIMi5yudwOBbHzrDI91Kf0P2i7hmEWXYq3Ks-l0-gWrFPMbtC9vISn69Qi-U2ry4k43n6OVsd3I6XuH-w4uFtINKNp03FuMh7mlia9ab71w/s1600/DSC01427.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1QZUwJF4cQUtVj4ZQU3qzV-rklgr8ZxSEIMi5yudwOBbHzrDI91Kf0P2i7hmEWXYq3Ks-l0-gWrFPMbtC9vISn69Qi-U2ry4k43n6OVsd3I6XuH-w4uFtINKNp03FuMh7mlia9ab71w/s320/DSC01427.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Pressing some strips for a WIP- my scrap project, Whirligig.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgafJzGYcG9FVxaBeqccz-iplt8OYUnfUWI-jfiBmM081fo-cEzgLk6F5B9hBHlxuaIl4IMPzLe58eofdpSk5-s02E2TOosvZNFwfTvKiIr8CJmPpgBTKz5NRGTpY1fRQhZXnCJQ1EAsA/s1600/DSC01428.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgafJzGYcG9FVxaBeqccz-iplt8OYUnfUWI-jfiBmM081fo-cEzgLk6F5B9hBHlxuaIl4IMPzLe58eofdpSk5-s02E2TOosvZNFwfTvKiIr8CJmPpgBTKz5NRGTpY1fRQhZXnCJQ1EAsA/s320/DSC01428.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
And working on about 3 other projects on the go, including a queen size quilt for my son, and putting the flimsy together on Stella Blue.<br />
<br />
All in all a good day- not a lot done, but at the same time I feel like I accomplished a lot. And I even made dinner...<br />

Tony's cousin and her husband adopted 2 girls from Haiti about 12 years ago, and have become very involved with providing clean water for Haitians. So we drove through a snowstorm to get there, and had a very nice evening. Saw cousins and spouses that we don't see often, and walked out 12 bottles of wine richer. The deal was for everyone to bring a bottle of wine and then be entered to win 12. Five or six couples won 12 bottles! We got a mixed bag of wines, 4 whites and 8 reds, and quality ranging from "quaffing" to "special".<br />

<br />
We are set for the Christmas season now!<br />
<br />
I have most of my Christmas decorations up, and love the warmth it gives the house. I have mentioned in previous years that I collect Santas, and generally add to the collection every year. This year there is no new one yet... but over the next few weeks there will be.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3Dr-6Er9s1gILfFKIbg1RJRxHAPNrPQk1qAGWFD5jRkPqOA-__Co6BmJUKlX70IDMKQ6q9MleCIghmmo_X8BCPHuS7DmyLNGqll8kX_qb7a5KzFWiLNaFXzwm-T-p_ZpBejRLq-sh4w/s1600/DSC01416.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3Dr-6Er9s1gILfFKIbg1RJRxHAPNrPQk1qAGWFD5jRkPqOA-__Co6BmJUKlX70IDMKQ6q9MleCIghmmo_X8BCPHuS7DmyLNGqll8kX_qb7a5KzFWiLNaFXzwm-T-p_ZpBejRLq-sh4w/s320/DSC01416.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
This is a guy added to the collection a couple of years ago. I used to put him outside but he kept blowing over, so now he has a special corner and greets our guests as they come in the front door.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This is a bad angle picture of my mantle... oh well. Looks much fuller than the picture would indicate and the santas are bigger than the picture would indicate...I have never professed to be a photographer...<br />
good thing, too!<br />

So I plan on designing my Christmas cards. I love red and purple for Christmas, so am going with that theme this year. I have an idea in mind, so hopefully the idea and the reality mesh. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.<br />
<br />
Hope your Sunday is a good one!anniebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06964650375035909932noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642496326734136626.post-5618473322383892132011-12-03T12:37:00.001-07:002011-12-04T11:19:48.150-07:00Why Do I Blog?I have had blogger's block over the past several months, and have just not felt like I had much to share. I've never been a prolific blogger anyway but now I am down to just a couple of posts a month.<br />
<br />
I started reading blogs several years ago when my creative sister in law started her <a href="http://quiltasdesired.blogspot.com/">own blog. </a> I thought I could do that and it might be a good way to kinda keep in touch with friends and family in Ontario- they could read my blog and know what I was up to. Mostly it has been a quilting blog, and now over the past few months, I've not written much at all. I read many blogs, most of those quilting blogs, and everything from <a href="http://barbarabrackman.blogspot.com/">Barbara Brackman </a>and her history of quilting to <a href="http://thebitchystitcher.blogspot.com/">The Bitchy Stitcher</a> who makes me laugh. I enjoy reading about everyone's creativity but seriously- where do people find the time to not only be so creative, but to write about it every day as well? This is not a criticism of anyone, but don't you wonder sometimes?<br />
<br />
I work almost full time. I am a wife, mother, doggie mother, and a volunteer. I love to read and play Suduko. I am a card maker and poor scrapbooker. I keep fit. I visit with friends and family. I also love to quilt, and time spent in any kind of quilting pursuit is when I am most relaxed and happy. (Note to Tony- second only to you, hun.)<br />
<br />
So, in answer to my own question, I blog to share my creativity, and hope that I might write about something interesting, but I don't always have anything quilty to share. I plan on sharing a few more parts of my life, and not just talk about quilting because although I tell people "I am a quilter", I am much more than that. <br />
<br />
And in order to not have a pictureless post, I will share this:<br />

She was one when we got her, and she has just been a joy to us. She is funny and loving and just has a great disposition. After we lost our first dog, it took my husband 4 years to decide to get another dog, and we have never regreted it. Well...maybe a little, like when we travel and we have to pay for her to go to the doggie kennel....<br />
<br />
Today it is a very cold (- 22 Celcius with windchill) so it is a stay inside day. I got my baby quilt layered and pinned, ready for the machine.<br />

Have a wonderful weekend!anniebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06964650375035909932noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4642496326734136626.post-80917427798253264802011-11-16T09:35:00.001-07:002011-11-16T10:00:13.265-07:00StrugglesEver since I moved my sewing room I have been struggling with sewing time...the new area is in our basement in an alcove near the TV area. This is a good thing when I am home alone as I can see the TV from the sewing table. But in the evenings when Tony is home there is usually sports on- hockey, baseball, golf, football, MMA, you name it. Not what I would normally watch. Not only that but I can't listen to music or a book because it is too close the the TV area...so yes, I am selfishly struggling... So, I've had a stern "talk to self" and am learning to live with it. I am using my iPod for music and books. I use my laptop to catch up on some TV shows, turned down low, or if I'm not moving about too much with a head set. It won't be this situation forever as the plan is when Dana leaves, I move into her bedroom. Not sure when this will happen but that is the plan.<br />
<br />
I have finished this flimsy for a baby girl called Sarah Maureen. I wanted to see if she was a boy or a girl first, so have finished this in record time. The plan this weekend is to get it pinned and quilting at least started.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip0sfyA-MeceWdvvWyRreNcaUySgUs0qah7gJ8WGDj9TqaRlxm8tZ0HNtay35YiMq1TfzrZDXc-hncgkNJByWI8l7vJxyogrsZ0ewWKaGYkDEnqmNicsDLeLeks5cZMl_u4spomYpOIg/s1600/DSC01409.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEip0sfyA-MeceWdvvWyRreNcaUySgUs0qah7gJ8WGDj9TqaRlxm8tZ0HNtay35YiMq1TfzrZDXc-hncgkNJByWI8l7vJxyogrsZ0ewWKaGYkDEnqmNicsDLeLeks5cZMl_u4spomYpOIg/s320/DSC01409.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
The picture doesn't do the colours justice but is lovely and soft for a baby girl. The back will be pieced from an assortment of scraps form the scrap cupboard.<br />
<br />
I'm also still working on Whirligig as a leader and ender project. I am making good progress and am loving the scrappy look as I am not obsessive about not placing like fabrics together. This will be quilt for us in the TV room as the ones we use now are looking pretty ratty.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIFT-iwZdW21R3gJl1DBflvg3y4DEb8tM_4orrCboyzbIy05OD6JhK2JDcZgWxZ0LnX7a3wmU4-TMXD0ax1lTrH2vQoViKyB4WVITrKI9uzKo_ct8t3N3tI13pVKmmvqYO94zJDYlDDg/s1600/DSC01410.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIFT-iwZdW21R3gJl1DBflvg3y4DEb8tM_4orrCboyzbIy05OD6JhK2JDcZgWxZ0LnX7a3wmU4-TMXD0ax1lTrH2vQoViKyB4WVITrKI9uzKo_ct8t3N3tI13pVKmmvqYO94zJDYlDDg/s320/DSC01410.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>
Today I am going to be home alone all day (my day off this week) so the plan is to figure out what to do next. I imagine keep on keeping on with Whirligig, piece another flimsy, and start a new project. Yahoo!!<br />
