My Quilting Journey

I really think it all started back sitting on my Grandma's knee while she sewed on her Singer treadle machine back in the 60's. She made most of my clothes (mostly floral dresses) and before she passed away she was making a scrap quilt made from scraps of all the dresses, blouses etc that she made for herself and me over the years. I was the only grand daughter for awhile so was very lucky to have her attention. I have two quilts she made and blogged about it here.
Over the years I made myself clothing- nothing fancy- shorts, summer tops etc. I also think I made every craft imaginable- I like to think I was searching for my creative self...
I make cards and do some scrapbooking but have really settled in on quilting. When my kids were young I was really just looking for a night out, so took some classes, and got hooked quickly due to my love of fabric and colour.
I have been quilting since about 1996 or so and for quite a while just made one project at a time-how foolish was that? I am no expert, and my quilts wouldn't pass the quilt police tests, but I love them, and quilting gives/saves my sanity. I can go into my sewing room and just forget all my worries and relax. That is what it is all about for me.

Ah! the serenity .. that is exactly what quilting gives me.. I love your story. So glad to have met you and share this beautiful craft all the while enjoying quilting with you. I cherish the table topper you made me and as I reflect on my day every morning I think of you as it is there on my table.

It is relaxing...isn't it? And because of quilting & the CGGQC our paths have crossed and I'm glad we've met (you know what I mean...LOL!). Thanks for sharing.

Memories - isn't something that we can cherish and no one can take it away from us.

Oh Anne - what a great story! I love that you got to sew with your grandma - and those quilts are precious! And, I'm so impressed about the one project at a time (tell me your secret - PLEASE)!!! I'm with you on the sanity thing, too - sometimes a girl just needs to retreat into the sewing room for a few hours! Thanks so much for sharing about your journey! I'm so glad that we get to share in it together!!!
