Must be Sunday!

My son and his friend came for dinner last night bearing gladiolas. They are hard to grow here. They hold such a childhood memory for me as my grandmother in London, Ontario used to grow them in her garden and I always loved that her name was Gladys and one of her favorite flowers were gladiolas! These are just beautiful and the flowers are opening perfectly.
It was has been a quiet week on the quilting/crafting front. I will write my exam this week- Thursday or Friday (depending on how smart I feel by Tuesday night). Then look out! I have plans for the Charming Girls Club and more....!
Yesterday I went to the Saskatoon Berry Farm and got 2 clematis on sale so put them in my garden this morning. I have two objects for them to climb, so look forward to seeing them climb and bloom next summer. I also got a little silver metal planter that I envision with purple and red flowering plants next year.
Wish me luck this week!!

Is Summer Finally Here?

We have finally been having some better weather and as a result we are getting out and walking more. Because I have vowed not to start any new projects until after my exam, I am finishing some paper projects and reading. And walking the dog...this is a pond right outside our door, and it is a stopping off place for many birds. I have to get a bird book because I see many more than I can identify. My birding skills are limited to robin, red wing blackbird, and Canada goose, so any book would help! Chloe likes to think she can catch the birds so she goes tearing after them, but always stops short of the water as she is scared of the water. Who knew a Golden Retriever could be scared of water??
We walk past some beautiful rolling hills and farm land. We live on the edge of a smallish town, and the rural acreages and farms are just across the highway from us. If it is a clear day we can see the tips of the mountains. The weekend morning walk is about 35 minutes and it is one of my favorite things, walking with my two sweeties- my husband and my Chloe.
This afternoon we are going to an Okotoks Dawgs game so hope the weather holds. It is Breast Cancer awareness day and the guys jerseys are auctioned off to raise money. Last year they raised $14,000.
This evening is time to putter in my studio I hope. I have to write my final exam on line the week of July 24-31, so will need to buckle down to study, and plan what projects I can work when the exam is over. I have a couple of ideas of what I am going do do as part of the Charming Girls Quilt Club, so just have to focus. Wish me luck with that!!??

Best Laid Plans

I have joined the group at Charming Girl's Quilt Club and going to try to complete a project a month. Click on my title for the link. Since I have an exam to write later this month, I will join up with them in August. I have a few Christmas presents in mind so can make that very goal oriented. I have never joined an on line group like this before so should be fun to read about everyone's creativity.

What I have worked on is making some cards. this is the card for my Mom's birthday.

This is the card I made for my niece's birthday.

I also made a card for my brother's birthday, but will not show it as I think he may take a look at this once in awhile. I have a thank you card to make for friends that took us to dinner and the Stampede Grandstand show, a card for my co-workers birthday, a card for my son's birthday and a card for my wedding anniversary. I hope to get those done this weekend, along with the studying. I will be very glad to have this course done and am not taking anything in August.

One down!

I have finished Strip Search by G.E. Designs made with 2 1/2 inch strips. I had almost all the strips sewn together, sitting in the closet for about a year. So, this week I made the blocks and a there is not border to this pattern, I am done! I just have to sew the blocks together and will do that either today or tomorrow. It is very warm looking and almost masculine. The first picture shows my design wall on Monday and the second is today with all the blocks laid out. It is a bit of a struggle laying blocks on the floor as Chloe seems to think she has to lay on them. I managed to get her out on the deck so I could do this with no interference.
My next project has to be card making. It is my son's birthday, mother's birthday, brother's birthday, and our anniversary all this month so I need to focus on that next. I missed making a card for my parents anniversary which is this weekend, so will call them instead. I have a few ideas percolating but need to clean off the other desk in order to get started. That I will do this afternoon so I can jump into it tomorrow morning!
This has ended up being a busy week of vacation with social stuff, but I also managed to get one project done and maybe more, as it is only Thursday! Yay!!
